If money were no object, what kind of automobile would you drive? A Lamborghini? A Ferrari? Or would you settle for a submergible James Bond car, accessorized with a telescope and torpedoes?

The reality, however, is that money is an object. And when it comes to price tags, American car shoppers with heavy wallets are more likely to settle for a sports car with a more accessible name brand -- not an expensive racing rarity.

No. 5: Chevrolet Corvette Z06 LZ3

As the only American car expensive enough to make the list, the Corvette carries its own legacy in automotive design. According to Yahoo! Auto, its retail price is $76,720.
  • Engine: 7.0L V8, 16-valve
  • 505 hp at 6300 rpm
Additional features:
  • Programmable adjustments for mirrors, seats, and steering well
  • Illuminated vanity mirrors

No. 4 Jaguar XJ Series Super V8

No. 3 BMW M6

One the most stylish of the new BMWs, the M6 is as sleek as it is speedy. With all the options, it retails at $99,300 according to U.S. News.

  • Engine: 5.0L V10, 40-valve
  • 500 hp at 8250 rpm

No. 2 Audi R8 Coupe quattro with Auto R tronic

Audi’s first-ever R8 is an automobile that’s way ahead of its time. Combining power, grace, and price at $118,000, it’s almost a race car at half the cost.
  • Engine: 4.2L V8, 32-valve
  • 420 hp at 8250 rpm
  • Additional Features:
  • Sequential-shift gearbox
  • Illuminated engine visible from inside and outside of vehicle

No. 1 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class CL65 AMG Coupe

As one of the well-respected automobile manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz has outdone itself. The new CL-Class CL65 AMG Coupe is a sports car that seats four comfortably and retails for approximately $197,000 according to Mercedes-Benz.
  • Engine: 6.0L V12, 36-valve
  • 604 hp at 4800 rpm
  • Additional Features:
  • Unique hill start control
  • Mercedes’ signature dashboard controls

A number of expensive cars will roll out in 2008, all of which feature powerful engines and luxurious cabins. While they may never be worth $1 million, their drivers can still get away with looking like $1 million.
