Oddsmaker: 'Slumdog' Early Oscar Favorite

Wynn Las Vegas Rep Also Favors Rourke, Winslet

One Las Vegas oddsmaker is making "Slumdog Millionaire" the early even-money favorite to win an Academy Award for Best Picture.

The rags-to-riches suspense drama earned 10 Oscar nominations Thursday, second to "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," which had 13.

Wynn Las Vegas sports book director John Avello also favors Mickey Rourke and Kate Winslet as Oscar favorites for Best Actor and Best Actress for their performances in "The Wrestler" and "The Reader," respectively.

Avello set the theoretical line for Rourke's performance as a broken-down professional wrestler at 2-1 and gave Winslet 8-5 odds for her role in the Nazi war crime drama.

Heath Ledger is Avello's 6-5 pick for Best Supporting Actor for "The Dark Knight" and "Doubt" co-star Viola Davis was named a 2-1 favorite for Best Supporting Actress.

"Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle is Avello's top pick for Best Director.

Not all Las Vegas oddsmakers list Oscar favorites, and none take actual bets on the outcome.

In addition to "Slumdog Millionaire," "Benjamin Button," "The Reader," "Milk" and "Frost/Nixon" are in the running for Best Picture for the 81st annual Academy Awards.

The Oscars will be handed out Feb. 22 in Hollywood, Calif.
