KGTV wins 2012 Emmy awards for newscasts and reporting

The Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Television Academy recognized KGTV 10News with the most Emmy Awards for newscast excellence.  The 10News team was honored for outstanding achievement in their 7pm and 11pm newscasts.  In addition, for the second year in a row, 10News Weekend received the EMMY Award.

“It is especially gratifying that our winning newscasts were truly team efforts,” commented KGTV News Director Joel Davis, “with multiple crews covering various angles of both the countywide blackout that impacted more than 3 million people, and the dramatic video we obtained of a police officer shooting. These awards validate the journalistic efforts we make every day in delivering the best news coverage in San Diego.”

In addition to the multiple newscasts awards, 10News was the only San Diego station honored with Emmy Awards for investigative reporting.

The awards further highlight a shift in the San Diego news market, where 10News has been on a steady increase in ratings.  In the May Nielsen ratings, 10News took the number 1 position at 11pm in total households and moved into second place in the competitive morning news block, further solidifying the claim that 10News is San Diego’s news source.
