Lawyers Top Ranking Of Worst Drivers By Job

Athletes, Homemakers Least Dangerous Drivers, Study Says

POSTED: 7:53 am PST February 19, 2010

If you're an expert at the law, you might also be an expert at getting stopped by the law.

That's according to a recent study that put lawyers and judges at the top of the Top 10 Most Dangerous Drivers By Profession. The study, conducted by the insurance Web site Insurance.com, found that 44 percent of attorneys and judges claimed to have been in a prior driving accident when comparison-shopping for auto insurance.

The least dangerous drivers? Athletes (17 percent) and homemakers (24 percent).

"Professions that demand multi-tasking –- being on the phone, moving fast on a tight schedule –- are prone to more distractions and, from there, more accidents," said Sam Belden, Insurance.com's vice president. "On the other hand, though the job of a homemaker demands multi-tasking, young children are often along for any car ride. And when children are involved, people tend to take their time and use greater caution."

Belden also noted that homemakers and athletes tend to be off the road during rush hour, when most accidents occur.

Insurance.com's complete list of Top 10 Most Dangerous Drivers by Profession is as follows:

  1. Attorney/Judge
  2. Financial professionals
  3. Government worker (GS6)
  4. Bartender or Waiter
  5. Business Professionals
  6. Dog Groomer
  7. Marketing/Advertising professionals
  8. Barber/Stylist
  9. Coach
  10. Nurse
