Crew Pulls 60-Foot Pleasure Boat To Shore In Oceanside

UPDATED: 12:05 pm PST February 9, 2010

Crews pulled a 60-foot pleasure boat to shore Tuesday, 10News reported.

The boat, named 'Smooth Operator II,' hit a jetty at Oceanside Harbor and sank in the shallow water, but the two people aboard got ashore uninjured.

10News learned at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, the captain of the boat put in a distress call to report the boat had been hit by a wave, and lost power. Oceanside firefighters and lifeguards responded.

The power boat, which apparently was holed, flipped onto its side and sank in about 5 feet of water next to the jetty.

Lifeguards jumped into the water and tried to anchor the boat before it sank, to no avail, said Oceanside police Sgt. Leonard Cosby.

The boat will stay on the sand until a flatbed truck can pick it up, 10News reported.

Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the accident, Cosby said.
